Yang Tajam Namun Tiada Bertulang

The title is not meant to be provocative actually. I was thinking about the phrase "tajam bagaikan lidah" and "memang lidah tidak bertulang".

I find that sometimes we shoot off answers, questions and remarks without giving the matter logical thoughts (I guess if this is the case then it is the brain which is at fault, not the tongue..) and in the end we offend and humiliate. And as if that isnt enough punishment, on top of that we would unavoidably bare our true colors to all.

Beware of what you say as that may reflect of what you think. And beware of what you think as that would surely indicate of who you are.

Rememberance..

Sleep seems elusive tonite. Even counting sheep (or equivalent thereof) cant seem to help. Maybe it's the after-dinner coffee that's sthe culprit..

Nevertheless, this seem like a good time to reminiscence life.. or maybe better yet of 'amal, of iman. Definitely of iman I suppose, as the day is made for the dunia and the night for 'amal and the remembrance of Allah.

The ustaz had once said, cuba muhasabah diri dan tanya berapa kali kita bangun sembahyang malam dalam sebulan. I counted the times on my fingers and thought I could improve there. Definitely a lot of room for improvement..

In another kuliyyah it was asked berapa kali khatam quran dalam setahun? Selama ini? Do you read the translations; not to mention tafsir, of course.

Do you know sirah rasul? And the beauty and lessons from sejarah Islam? Soalan yang bertalu2 dan tiada jawapannya. Or maybe the answers stare at me in the face and yet I refuse to face it..?
Definitely a time to reminiscence about 'ilmu, 'amal and ibadah, I'd think.

What Driver Are You?

An acquaintance of mine drives like the 'ribut'. She goes very fast. She takes corners riskily. I doubt I'd want to ride with her again.. The other guy drives like an amateur - be brakes unncessarily and has no sense of direction; he' supposed to go to Duta but ends up in Sg Buloh.. duh..?

Now another friend drives like wind; no less than 160kmph. I told him, you need the plane; not a car. I can imagine his small children being tossed about at curves, bumps and dips.

My son drives fast - darah muda. When he was 17 a classmate of his had had a fatal accident. I always scare him by reminding him of that incident. He'd slow down a bit then.

His brother drives like a pro; sometimes fast but most times at an acceptable speed. But somehow with a natural flair that I admire. His driving instructor had told him why should we continue lessons since you can drive well already?

The other son, what can I say, CANT drive. Got no license. Took the divider during one of his lessons with his brother. When I nag him about driving he said, I can take the bus, walk or ask friends for lifts.

And when my daughter drives, I try to concentrate on other things instead of the road. And I get severe palpitations. We always end up fighting - I'd nag her and she'd tell me I should have driven instead. She hates driving and doesnt have a car. She said, I can take the train or cab.

Me? I drive like an angel, of course.

Be Sure To Be Clear

Years ago my boss (now ex-boss) asked if we'd like to go for lunch together. We told him we have to take a raincheck because of other commitment. He asked with a frown, what's a raincheck? We said it's something like, we are not available this time but please ask us again next time. He went oh, I didnt know that.

Then I told my sisters we should have a baby shower for our .. cough, cough .. cucu (ha-ha). They went blank. They couldnt get over the fact that a shower is a shower which is what you do everyday.

And we are all aware that there are Billy Tan(s) and Travolta Lam(s) and Bobby Chin(s) etc etc in the world. But as far as I know, if you are William then you are called Bill. If you are Robert then you are Bob. And I dont know if there is any real life Travolta - outside the big screens, that is..

Pandora Box simply means unpleasant surprises and chocolate liquor actually doesnt contain alcohol. And doesnt discuss "over lunch" means you will be having lunch while dicussing matters?

Nevertheless, I am still blur about being true blue and of carrying a chip on my shoulder and also the fact that every cloud has its silver lining..

And I am posting this because I am sort of mad - someone said something which actually meant something else; and yours truly was caught unawares..

Super Heroes

I went to get some books the other day and met an acquaintance at the store. She was surprised to see the number of books I am taking home with me. I shrugged and said that I'd be on leave and dont have that much to do..

Later the question that popped up was why does the genre interest me so much? Well, let's see my options to answer that question:
a. Because I'd like to improve my English
b. Because I was told reading is a commendable hobby
c. Because.. err.. Pardon me, is it any of your concern?
d. Because the heroes in the books are bigger than that in real life. (Why else do you think we love Batman, Superman, X-Men and even The Incredibles?)

I like (d) the best; for reasons best known to a writer who had said the books leave readers with a warm cocoon feeling.. Anyway in this occassion I think (c) would be the most suitable answer; but then dont all of us prefer to be politically correct instead of plain rude?

ps : But of course, I think Bogart in Casablanca is the biggest hero of them all..

The Polls

What else would I write about but the election at this date and time?

I am gleefully watching tv and catching up on the latest news on the net. Although these arent official but its nice to hear Nurul Izzah has won (we thought she'd lose to Shahrizat) - her being the innocent that she is compared to the opponent. And Dr Lo' Lo' winning. And KJ losing and PP swept by DAP. Let's wait for the official results.

We assumed we will be polling at the old school but turned out that only Iman's name is there. Ours are at the other school in Melawati (well, you know what 'assume' can do to you..) Whilst putting my vote into the box, I made a last prayer, and then dropped my vote.

We passed by the BA kiosks along the street. We honked and I gave them thumbs up. Of course when we passed by BN's tent I gave them the thumbs down. My hubby and daughter laughed but I said, since I cant tell their bosses I dont like them I had to tell that to the bosses' supporters. Itu usaha saya.

Got to go - big news on tv..

Good Times @ McD

We went out for dinner at ugh, Eirfan's fave - McD, of course - Iman was working late and I didnt feel like cooking for only the three of us..

Eirfan had his homework with him. Halfway thru his drawings of pulleys and gadgets, he gave up because the pictures were too difficult to follow. I said tekap la - the pictures were too small. He begged his father to draw, free-handed of course, for him..

.. while him and me had a fun quality time together playing the fool..

Hurrah for dads!

In My Hands?

Got a call on Thur evening; was gleefully informed by a colleague I am now in the Celcom development team. Apparently I missed a call from the boss himself earlier. Later got an SMS from him asking me to attend a meeting early Fri morn.

I woke up in the middle of the night dreaming I am in Celcom's team; and then told myself that is going to be a reality.

Early dawn Fri I replied the boss' SMS declining to attend the meeting, citing another discussion pre-arranged much earlier. He insisted. Later I called the delivery manager who said most premature of the boss to ask me to join in the meeting that morning. Yippee.. I skipped the meeting altogether.

Mid Fri morning I was called to discuss the setup of the Celcom team and the team I'll be leaving.

Afternoon I was called for another discussion. Apparently the morning meeting didnt go well with Celcom. They had slained us alive (what else is new?) So we had some (a lot of) grounds to cover. Whilst there I was called yet again to another Celcom related discussion. Thankfully everything settled down a little after 6.

And that was even before the team members were officially announced.

I've been through this once, so I know for the next 5 months I will not have a life. I'm going to live, breath and dream (have nightmares more likely) Celcom instead. And I need all the luck I can get.
